Today I got up early and it felt incredible

For many years my early routine consisted of twisting, turning and sausage role creation (not the tasty meat snack, it's more wrapping myself into human sausage role with my duvet). This often lead to me rolling over squeezing every last second of sleep, especially on Monday mornings, I used to think getting up early? Ain't nobody got time for that. However whilst creating this video, I thought there's nothing worse than a hypocrite? Therefore last night I retreated to bed before the witching hour, wrapped myself up warm and set my alarm in the furthest reach of my room. Seriously try putting your alarm as far away from bed, it really helps you conquer the sleep button.

Morning came, my alarm slowly progressed with the sweet sensation of "Mano Le Tough - Mr Rain", if you haven't heard it, seriously try adding it to your morning routine; starts with birds singing and everything. I battled my urge to return to my squalor, instead I did something rather unusual for me, I went on an early morning run and it was glorious! Completely due to the fact that the pretty fire circle in the sky had blessed us with a beautiful day and not the action of putting one leg in front of the other loads. However it left me feeling invigorated for the whole day. Oh and on the way home I saw a little squirrel run across upon his search for nutty treats, instead to his surprise he found a drumstick; silly squirrel thinking he's human, does he not know it's bad for his teeth? Squirrels don't have dentists.

But yeah, I'm probably the biggest sceptic I know. I believed early mornings were a curse, it turns out they're actually pretty incredible. Like today I feel invigorated not lethargic and it feels pretty bloody marvellous. So yeah, give it a try you might just be ever so slightly rather impressed, oh and remember there's always the weekends to lie in...

Being an early riser was problematic, now its NO SWEAT

Throughout school, college and employment, I never really had an issue with getting up early. The main reason used to be that I was getting an early night most nights due to the tiring events that the previous day provided me with.

Nowadays, lack of daily structure provides me with motivational problems.

Watching the video gave me plenty of inspiration, and reasons to get up early even without any scheduled events. Some of the tips are great for getting that motivation to depart the land of nod, and I have now put them into practise...its starting to work!

Life's too short to stay in bed all day.

I never really thought about the impact that was being created, from late nights, wasting my time, and missing out on the mornings. From school I always made the effort to get to bed early, so I was ready to greet the day ahead of me. However, in the last year of University, the number of late nights i've let myself in for, has had a really negative impact on my work ethic and missing out on opportunity to see people and just do the things I can in the morning!!

Since watching this video, I've definitely been more aware of the impact it's having. I think one of the worst parts about sleep is that we value it so much, but yet don't remember our nights sleep, so maybe I've forgotten how important it is?

I've definitely tried these techniques since, and working towards goals has certainly made me motivated to get to bed early, turn off the TV and get productive in the Mornings!!

I used to wake early every day, what happened?!

Getting up at 6am every morning throughout my secondary school years to do my local paper round certainly taught me the benefits of waking up early, welcoming every day certainly got me in a good mood for the rest of it. However after coming to university, like nearly all students, the thought of getting up before 9am is difficult. Constant late nights don't lend themselves well to an early morning and so over the past few weeks I have been slowly moving back my sleeping pattern to allow me to wake earlier and once again appreciate what the morning brings. For me waking up early makes me feel fresher and gives me more time when others are available to do things, what's the point of being awake at 2.30am every morning, when there's nothing to do or anyone to do anything with?

I recommend trying out the techniques shown at the end of the video, for myself they have proved vital in getting me up for those dreaded 9am lectures! Let us know if the video changed your mind on waking up early, and if the techniques provided helped you do so.

Alex Goodwin - My Personality Test results.

TEST RESULTS

So after finally getting round to doing the My Personality test, it came out with some interesting reults. Along with Aaron, I too was an ENFP, although not in an as extreme form. Seeing some of the other real life ENFP's interested me, being coupled within the same category as my ultimate childhood hero Dr. Suess was certainly a good start!

The test provides a good explanation as to what a person who is an ENFP is like 'ENFPs are introspective, values-oriented, inspiring, social and extremely expressive. They actively send their thoughts and ideas out into the world as a way to bring attention to what they feel to be important, which often has to do with ethics and current events. ENFPs are natural advocates, attracting people to themselves and their cause with excellent people skills, warmth, energy and positivity. ENFPs are described as creative, resourceful, assertive, spontaneous, life-loving, charismatic, passionate and experimental'

Would I agree with the test? Yes, and no. Certainly I feel I am a value orientated, inspiring and social person, I enjoy being with friends and definitely believe myself to be an inspiring individual in some respects. However I feel the test makes out that I like to show off to others which certainly isn't the case, I'm often creative however find it hard to share those ideas with others which I don't believe the test is suggesting. However I can't be unhappy with the results, the test has certainly been very flattering towards myself, it fails to mention my terrible communication, organisation and commitment skills. Haha! Personally I agree with the view that while this test can go some way into proving what my personality is like, a series of 70 questions can only scratch the surface of understanding what makes me, me.

What is the surprising thing for myself is the amount of variation in personality from one human being to another. Aren't we all so different!

Daniel Frost Personality

Just had a go at the my personality test online. Although it tries to give an in-depth accurate description of your personality, I find it difficult to justify that a computer can analyse an intangible thing. Some aspects are correct, as it calls me 'the chief', and i like to think of myself as a leader. "ENTJs are natural born leaders. They live in a world of possibilities where they see all sorts challenges to be surmounted, and they want to be the ones responsible for surmounting them. They have a drive for leadership, which is well-served by their quickness to grasp complexities, their ability to absorb a large amount of impersonal information, and their quick and decisive judgments." I personally think that this description of the typical ENTJ definitely speaks too well.

Aaron Giles - Personality test

Just got around to doing the "My Personality Test", it's actually quite thought-provoking; I'd recommend you do it yourself. I found it very interesting, especially saying it claims I'm part of the personality group visionary, which in fairness I've always seen myself as ha. I'd agree I'm definitely a warm and positive person, in fact I believe it defines me quite well, with the focus revolving around people skills, creativity and spontaneity. Then again who isn't going to agree with these personality types? I've looked through them all and most of them focus on the positive elements, none of the 16 types really say anything negative what's so ever, be much more interesting if the types showed peoples short comings too, then again that's not very warm or positive of me ha. It also compares my personality type to Will from the fresh-prince, 15 year old me would probably perform a celebratory fist pump, I can only wish to someday have a collection of attire so flamboyant. There was another comparison that made me slightly less happy, but I'm not going to share that one with you.

Callum's personality results.

Just did the "My Personality test" and posted the results on the blog. I agree with some elements of the results, but also completely disagree with others, and I personally think that this is simply because you can't define a person, by answering questions, which give closed, quantitative results.

From my results, I can see how some characteristcs which would match my attitudes and behaviour in the world. For example, as my "overseer" personality suggests, I do enjoy taking responsibility and being in charge of some tasks as I know I can get the job done. However, I don't agree with the idea of following procedures and rules, as I often enjoy thinking outside the box and approaching new ways of completing group work and individual work, in order to keep things fresh and engaging. I find a lot of Psychology theory challenging, or contradictory to what I think, as I believe that personality is so individual and unique that it can't be defined so simply.

The definition of my "Overseer" role is below, with my results being there too, enjoy, but remember, just because a test says your one thing, doesn't mean you have to live your day to day lives, as your definition suggests. ESTJs are responsible, logical, norm-following hard workers. Their efforts are carried out in a practical, structured manner. ESTJs trust facts and experiences more than theories. They are decisive, loyal, tradition observing individuals. They enjoy being the person in charge and often make good supervisors.
